Historical Society programs highlight history of Randwood

published April 26, 2018 in

With strong community interest in the Randwood Estate property on John Street, the Niagara Historical Society & Museum is working on two programs that will highlight the history of this special place in our community. A second session for the talk will be Monday, June 11th at 7 pm. (The May 28 lecture sold out.)

The Museum is also trying to fill its bus trip to Guelph, which includes a look at Randwood’s Landscape Architecture plans on June 19 bus trip to Guelph.

No other estate in Niagara-on-the-Lake has been owned by so many famous personages as that of Randwood. From Peter Russell, Receiver General and a member of the Executive Council of Upper Canada; to William Dickson, businessman, politician and lawyer; to his locally known sons Walter and William; to Henry Lansing, an American Civil War General and Captain Robert Melville of the Niagara Harbour and Dock Company fame; to the wealthy Buffalo family, the Rands; and, more recently, world class artist, Trisha Romance.

Find out more about the history of the property and its owners on Monday, May 28th, or Monday, June 11, at 7 pm, at a lecture presented by Museum Board member David Hemmings. All seats are reserved. Tickets are $10 or free for Niagara Historical Society Members. Space is limited at the Museum so advance registration is required.
