Additional information on Marotta Subdivision application and Town process

Article posted on May 2, 2021

We have prepared and present here an aerial depiction of the subdivision proposed by the Marotta Group for the Rand Estate. This is truly one of those cases where a picture tells a thousand words. The Marotta application proposes to festoon virtually every square foot of 200 John and 588 Charlotte Streets with houses. It is, in our opinion, simply outrageous and would be a tragic denigration of the iconic Rand Estate if permitted to proceed. This is evidently what Mr. Marotta meant when he said he wanted to make NOTL “more beautiful”.

The reports prepared for the Marotta Group to support this application can now be found on our website at sorenotl.ca/rand-subdivision-proposal. We encourage all concerned residents to review those reports and send us your comments, questions and concerns by emailing us at [email protected]. We will consider all input in conjunction with our experts’ review of those reports and our ultimate submissions to the Town.

Looking forward, we will continue to post relevant information on our website. In the interim a reminder again that there will be an electronic Open House concerning this application on Tuesday, June 15, at 5 p.m. and a Public Meeting on Wednesday, July 14, at 5 p.m.. You must register for the Open House by contacting Mark Iamarino at [email protected] or call him at 905 468 6423.. Questions will apparently be permitted at the Open House (we assume electronic).

We have now received clarification from the Town with respect to the Public Meeting. You only need to register for that if you intend to make oral comments during the meeting (we assume at this point that will be by video link). If not, you can simply log into the livestream that evening. We are encouraging everyone who wishes to make oral comments at the Public Meeting to register as soon as possible. That can be done by contacting Peter Todd at [email protected].

We are also encouraging all concerned residents and stakeholders to submit written comments to the Town after the Open House or Public Meeting. This will be your chance to let Council and Town planning staff know what you think of this proposal and why. Take your time and be considered with your comments as Town planning staff will be obliged to take these comments into account in compiling their staff report on the Marotta subdivision application. Those written comments must be submitted to Peter Todd at [email protected] and reference Town file numbers OPA-02-2020, ZBA-11-2020 and 26T-18-20-01.

If you have questions about the process or wish assistance in formulating your oral comments for the Public Meeting or with your written comments please do not hesitate to contact us at [email protected] and we will do our best to help.
