Council (finally) moves on MHC recommendations

Article posted on April 17, 2018

NOTL Council motions Apr 16 2018

SORE is very pleased to report that after an inexplicable 30-day delay, Council on Monday night, April 16, unanimously approved the recommendations passed by the Municipal Heritage Committee (MHC) at its February 13 meeting.  Minor amendments were made to the recommendations as well as four new items (1.6.10-13), at the request of Councillor Disero, who continues to demonstrate her leadership on this critical file while many of her Council colleagues have been AWOL.   We’re hoping for better from the rest of Council moving forward.

As both SORE and our heritage impact experts ERA  have been advising, it is now imperative that the  MHC be intimately involved in both the development of the terms of reference for the heritage impact peer review and the selection of the expert(s) chosen to undertake that work, if the peer review is to have any credibility with either the MHC or the residents, including SORE.  We remind Council and staff once again that under the Town’s Official Plan, the MHC has final approval authority over the design of anything built on the Rand Estate.

SORE will be closely monitoring each and every one of these items.  Visit this website frequently for updates.
