NOTL Receives Prestigious Heritage Award

Article posted on December 15, 2020

SORE is very pleased to note  that the Town has received the prestigious Prince of Wales Prize for 2020 from the National Trust for Canada.

The Prince of Wales Prize recognizes communities and their local governments for successful heritage stewardship of a town, city or district.

In making the award, the jury noted that NOTL “boasts an extraordinary collection of residential, commercial, ecclesiastical and institutional buildings, many of them on their original sites”.  The Trust specifically noted the importance of the Town’s cultural heritage landscape and  the important contribution to local heritage conservation made by the Niagara Foundation‎. The Trust called NOTL “a compelling example of resilience, ongoing innovation and careful heritage preservation”.

Success has many fathers.   This award is a recognition of the  collective and continued efforts of many, including our elected Council, the Niagara Foundation and ‎many hundreds of residents, including you, our supporters. This is what SORE is all about. We welcome The National Trust’s recognition of what makes NOTL such a special place to live.
