SORE reminds interested parties that there is a special Council meeting at 5 p.m. tonight at the Community Centre.
The purpose of the meeting is to consider a request by the Marotta group for a number of demolition permits under the Heritage Act to facilitate a proposed high density subdivision on the Rand Estate.
The Town’s heritage planner has recommended that most of the requested permits, including ones that would facilitate a new road up 200 John St, be DENIED.
These permits, if denied as recommended, will then be appealed up to the Ontario Land Tribunal (OLT), which has already scheduled a hearing on the Planning Act applications necessary for the proposed subdivision.
It is conceivable that the OLT will deny the subdivision application in its entirety.
SORE hopes and expects Council to ensure that the Heritage Act demolition permits applications are heard together with the Planning Act applications at the OLT. That is the only sensible and appropriate approach in the circumstances.
We look forward to seeing you tonight.
