Very important court date next week

Article posted on October 23, 2019

SORE alerts its supporters and all Town residents of an important court date in St Catharines next week.

Readers will recall that Benny Marotta challenged the legality of your elected Council’s decision to designate all four Rand Estate properties under the Ontario Heritage Act in August of 2018‎.

After many delays at the hands of Mr Marotta’s lawyers, this matter looks like it will finally be heard by a Superior Court judge next week. Both the Town and SORE are parties to this proceeding.

We should know the exact date later this week.   In the interim, we are providing advance notice to  our supporters and interested parties of this extremely important hear‎ing. We packed the courtroom for the hearing in the spring where Mr Marotta resisted, unsuccessfully, SORE’s application for party status in the case. The fact that there were a hundred or more interested residents from the Town present in court that day sent a strong message to the court about the importance of the case to NOTL. We are asking you to do it again next week.

We will provide a further update on Friday with particulars of location and timing. We look forward to seeing you and thank you for your continued support. We could not do this without you!
